The Political Section handles matters related to the institutional relationship with Japan, including the Cabinet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, various ministries, the National Diet, and subnational entities.

In addition, the Embassy establishes and maintains links with other institutions outside the government sphere, including academic, social, and civil areas.

The Political Section also deals with defense, education, and Antarctic cooperation matters.
