VISAS - GENERAL INFORMATION

 

Visas to enter the Argentine Republic are granted according to three categories: transient, temporary, and permanent. In most cases, foreign nationals are required to apply for visas at the Argentine consulate in their country of residence. Temporary or permanent require an Entry Permit in addition to a visa.

 

TRANSIENT VISAS

Transient (short-term) visas include the following categories: transit, tourism, business, and other paid or non-paid activities (cultural, artistic, religious, technical and professional activities that may have been required by persons or entities established in Argentina).

 

I) JAPANESE citizens

1) HOLDERS OF VALID JAPANESE PASSPORT DO NOT REQUIRE TRANSITORY VISA FOR BUSINESS, CULTURAL OR OTHER PROFESSIONAL NON-PAID ACTIVITIES, ATTENDING CONVENTIONS, WORKSHOPS OR SEMINARS, OR TOURISM PURPOSES UP TO 90 DAYS (RENEWABLE IN ARGENTINA FOR A SIMILAR PERIOD).

HOLDERS OF A VALID JAPANESE PASSPORT ATTENDING CONVENTIONS, WORKSHOPS OR SEMINARS DO NOT REQUIRE VISA.

 

II) OTHER FOREIGN citizens

We strongly suggest that you apply for this visa personally at this Embassy of Republic Argentina - Consular Section, with no less than 30 days from the scheduled date of departure to Argentina. Since the requirements may vary depending on your passport, please call the Consular Section (Tel. 03-5420-7107) or send an email to consulares_ejapo@mrecic.gov.ar in advance to confirm if you require a visa and to request an application form, if needed.

III) GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR TOURIST VISAS:

• Valid passport.
• Visa Application Form (download below)
• Local identification card (gaikokujin touroku shomeisho), if held.
• Two photographs, 4x4 cm, white or light blue background, no glasses.
• Certificate issued by travel agent stating round trip ticket details (flight schedule, roundtrip airline and hotel reservations)
• Proof of sufficient funds, copy of a credit card and bank account statement.
• Letter of invitation from Argentina. If you are visiting family members or friends, an original invitation letter from them and a copy of their Argentine ID (D.N.I.), certified by an Argentine Notary Public and then by the "Colegio de Escribanos". If you are not visiting family members or friends the applicant must accompany the reference of the Hotel/Accomodation booked by his/her credit card.
• Certificate of employment or letter from your employer in Japan confirming that you are currently employed by the company, position and income. The letter must be original, written in or translated into Spanish, on company letter-head paper, signed by the person in charge. The signature of the person in charge of the company must be certified by the Local Chamber of Commerce or a Notary Public (Apostille). If you own the business, please add a copy of your business' official registration.
• If you are a student at a University, original letter from your university in Japan (or Student Certificate) confirming that you are currently a student there. The official seal of the letter or the certificate must be certificated by the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and written in or translated into Spanish.
• Payment of the visa fee.

Photocopies of the aforementioned documents must be sent by mail in advance, together with the visa application form.

Once your documents have been checked, the consulate staff will contact you to arrange an appointment. In some cases, additional documents may be required.

IV) ENTRANCE AND EXIT OF MINORS (CHILDREN UNDER 18)

 

ENTER ARGENTINA WITH A MINOR:

Minors of 13 years of age of any nationality who are travelling unaccompanied or without their parents or legal guardians require:

• A travel authorization
• "Venia de Viaje" issued by the Argentine Consulate, or
• Alternatively, a travel authorization signed before a notary public and legalized with the Hague Apostille. NOTE: if it is not written in spanish, the authorization must be translated by an official argentine public translator and certified by the "Colegio de Traductores Publicos de la Republica Argentina".
• Minor's Birth Certificate (if not issued by Argentine authorities, certificate must have the Apostille attached)
• Valid Passport or travel document

All documentation must be presented in original. 

 

EXIT ARGENTINA WITH A MINOR:

Minors of 18 years of age, of any nationality, whose legal residence is in Argentina are who are travelling without both parents, in order to exit the country require:

• A travel authorization: "Venia de Viaje" issued by the Argentine Consulate
• Minor's Birth Certificate (if not issued by Argentine authorities, certificate must have the Apostille attached)
• Valid Passport or travel document
